Serpent worship is very common in Hinduism especially in Kerala. There are many temples in Kerala devoted to Serpents also known as Nagas. Amongst many, the three well known temple in the state are Pambumekkattu in Thrissur district, Mannarasala in Allapey district and Pathira kunnathu Mana in Palakkad district.
I would like to share the experience and travel information from my visit to Pathira kunnathu Mana. “Mana” here means house in Malayalam and the Pathira kunnathu is name of the House or the family residing there.
As we had special pooja(offerings) from 5:30pm to 6:30pm and had to be there at 5am, we departed from Thrikkavu, Ponnani at 4:00pm and reached the destination by 5:30pm. The route is mentioned in the below information section.

The temple had very divine and a calm ambiance. Since it was summer the weather was quite hot but the ambiance within the temple did not make us realize the weather.
The temple is owned and run by a Brahmin family of Pathira kunnathu. The main deity of Nagaraja (serpent) is placed inside the mana, I could also spot the snake grooves and small deities in the grooves. There is also a small pond, where we could wash our feet before entering to the mana.
During the poojas I could get a chance to talk to a priest of the temple and asked the history behind the temple. It is said that, long ago illathamma of the mana (women residing the manas were known as illathamma) were not having child. Therefore, as per the astrological calculation they were advised to visit the Vadakunathan temple. As advised, they visited the temple and after a long wait illathamma was mother to be, after 9 months illathamma not only delivered a baby but also a baby serpent, and after a while the baby serpent vanished. Therefore, the main deity of the temple is the place where the illathamma delivered a baby serpent.
Ayilyam Nakshatram (birth star in Malayalam) in Kanni Masam (month as per the Malayalam calendar) is an auspicious day and is of great significance in this temple, as this day is known for the serpent worship. At this day special poojas are offered to Nagaraja (the king of serpent).
There are many such amazing temples with the facts and interesting legends related to each temple. Hope you enjoyed reading, will be back soon with new experiences, facts and memories.
Until then happy blogging ? ?

Hi Sunil, nice to know like reading it :). I am not sure if there is any corelation.
Today I visited the Mana Temple. Pooja samagri procured from the gate accepted by them. But one of the young member asked to bring gold or silver serpent models. Now this place is becoming a business centre.
Thank you. My family has been wanting to visit this Mana. The sacred groves and pampumkavu are fascinating indeed.
